As we have learned in our background readings, the Four Noble Truths are fundamental to the Buddhist belief system. The first of the Four Noble Truths, "Existence is suffering" arises in the first chapter with Siddhartha's discontent.
Do you think that Siddhartha has reason to be dissatisfied with his life? Why or why not? Be sure to use a short supporting passage as evidence for your opinion, including the page number.
I think Siddhartha has reason to be dissatisfied with his life because everyone loves his as he walks or do something that’s makes people happy. Especially his friend govinda loves him more than himself. He was the highest priest that he is really good at spirit. For more thinks likes his friend govinda wants to follow Siddhartha this companion, his servant, his lance bearer, his shadow to. Be liked him as well as the other girls might love him to. Pg-(3) “Siddhartha had begun to feel the seeds of discontent within him. He had begun to feel that the love of his parents, and also as well hid friend govinda, would not always make him happy, give him peace, satisfy and suffice him”. So far I think Siddhartha wants to be alone do his own work with taking his parents and his friend Govinda’s help as well. SO Siddhartha would rather to use his holy books by knowing everything the creation of the world, the origin of speech, food, and also the arrangement of the senses. Siddhartha knew many worthy Brahmins, above all his father holly, learning of highest esteem. Siddhartha would do meditation to have a peaceful life by not having any problems in his life so that’s how he’s unhappy about his life. I guess
ReplyDeleteNo I do not think that Siddhartha has any reason to be dissatisfied with his life. He had everything that any guy could ever possibly want. He was blessed into a rich family caste called the Brahmins, which was the highest social class. All Brahmins daughters loved and admired him a little too much, and he was also a quite handsome young man. For example, in the passage it stated that “Love stirred in the hearts of the young Brahmins daughters when Siddhartha walked through the streets of the town, with his lofty brow, his king-like eyes and his slim figure.” Also he had a wonderful best friend who loved him and everything about him more than anyone else. His mother was very proud of him “pride grew in his mother breast when she saw him walking, sitting down and rising …”Siddhartha’s father was happy also because “his son who was intelligent and thirsty for knowledge ; he saw him growing up to be a great learned man, a priest, a prince among Brahmins. Therefore I feel that Siddhartha had not even one reason to feel dissatisfied about his life because he had it all and there was nothing more that he could ask for.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don’t think Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied mostly everybody in his country admires and loves him. Every girl parents elderly person adores Siddhartha they think he is a slim, cute, and a lovely person. His father is in a high top social class named the Brahman. His also have a friend named Govinda that was very supportive and had Siddhartha back everything. Siddhartha also doesn’t have to dissatisfied because he has people that has higher hopes for him in life. His reason might be boring or not interesting him but at least he has support from other for it. He also has a upper class dad. Siddhartha also has a good head his shoulder he is smart and brave also by what I’m reading in the book so far.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don’t think Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life because he had the thing that all of people want in life, his all the Brahmins daughters in love by the way he walk, also he was blessed into a wealthy family castes called Brahmins. Siddhartha even found good friendship in Govinda and they both believe in each other. ‘’ Govinda, his friend, the Brahmin’s son, loved him more than anybody else.’’ (pg. 2) If I have all thing that Siddhartha has I will give almost all thing that I have to people that need more then I do . People say you should thank that person for the entire thing they have in life’’ It always good to share with other people that live in the community. I think Siddhartha should share and not be greedy then he will find satisfaction in his life.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life.He pretty much has everything you could want he has people that love him like all the brahmin girls who so happen to love, admire, and think that he was handsome, “ “love stirred in the hearts of the young Brahmins’ daughters when siddhartha walked through the streets of the town, with his lofty brow, his king-like eyes and his slim figure” (pg. 2) He was also rich. how can you be dissatisfied with life when your rich?I don’t think it really mattered if he was rich or not because if I was rich I wouldn’t really care. money doesn’t make people happy as much as other thing in life so that could be one of the reasons why he was dissatisfied with his life.I don’t think that it gives him any reason to be dissatisfied with his life.I don’t really know at this point why he is so dissatisfied with life it just doesn’t make sense he even has friends family he realy isnt missing anything. It look like to me that he has the full package it just doesn’t make any sense. Then again that just what I think who knows what is going on his mind.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that siddharta has every thing us people that have all this modernis and things (we are very materialistic) would love because to us being rich and being admired and envied is being happy but i believe that it is because we have alot of envy because if we had all that we wuoldnt say the same things; i am a christian and i had been taught that the only important thing is god and this life is only one small passage in our life because we will have a second life in gods kingdom for example in this passage siddharta says "the brahmins and their holy books knew everything-the creation of the world, the origin of speech, food, inhalation, exhalation, the arrengement of the senses, the acts of the gods. they knew a tremendous number of things- but was it worth while knowing all these things if they did not know the one important thing, the only important thing?" even if he is not my same religion and he has several gods i can understand that every person has there diferent opinion about the purpose of life he didnt know and he disided to find it out; so my final answer is that yes he had a reason (he wanted to find happines)why? because he didnt know why he was there, why he had all these things that he found meaningless he just wanted to find out why.
ReplyDeleteI think siddhartha has reasons to be dissatisfied with his life due to the fact on how he is unsatisfied with his life. As stated on page two "siddhartha himself was not happy" proves that he has reasons to be dissatisfied with his life. Also, as stated on page three "siddhartha had begun to feel the seeds of discontent within him" shows how he is dissatisfied with his life due to the dreams and restless thoughts that came flowing to him from the teachings of the old brahmins. Siddhartha had sorrow and many unanswered questions that he didn't understand why it was like this, why his questions weren't answered. Stated on page five it says " these were siddhartha's thoughts; this was his thirst, his sorrow. Lastly, siddhartha had to suffer an over night waiting for his dad's permission to become a samana. Although his dad didn't except this at first but as unpleased and selfish it was he adventually gave siddhartha the permission so his son wouldn't die of hunger and being tired of not going to sleep. There were manny several reasons as to why siddhartha was dissatisfied with his life but through these reasons you can see as to why he fought to be where he is today.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Siddhartha really has a reason to be dissatisfied. Siddhartha has everything that a lot of people would love to have. He gets admired hes rich and has a lovely family. In today's society we live in a materialistic world were we rather go hard for the newest name brand than of the ordinary life were others are suffering.
ReplyDeleteGovinda and Siddhartha had a great relationship. Govinda loved him more than anyone else. [Page2] Siddhartha felt that the love from his father, mother and Friend Govinda will not always make him happy give him peace nor satisfy him.
Siddhartha doesn't need to feel dissatisfied because he has people who see him more highly than he see's himself. People admire him just because he was handsome. Siddhartha was intelligent and thirsty for knowledge his father was happy. Siddhartha delighted and made everyone happy.
I think Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life. Because he is not happy with the life he has. Even thought Siddhartha have everything a person would want in his/her life. For example, he born in a rich family, he have a friend who loves him more than anyone else, his parents are proud to have a son like him, young Brahmin’s daughters love him. From the page 2; paragraph 3-4, “there was a pride in his mother’s breast when she saw him walking, sitting down and rising: Siddhartha—strong, handsome, supple-limbed, greeting her with complete grace. Love stirred in the hearts of the young Brahmin’s daughters when Siddhartha walked through the streets of the town, with his lofty brow, his king-like eyes and his slim figure”. He is making everyone happy and proud of him but what’s with all this when Siddhartha himself is not even happy with it. To Siddhartha being rich, handsome, loved by everyone is not enough for him to live his life and that’s all it matter. He wants to find the peace and happiness of his life. His heart desire something more, something that he is born to do. And that desire is to live a life as Samana. And if that makes him happy, than I think I would do the same if I were in his place because, we only have one life and we all should live it the way we want.
ReplyDeleteI do think that Siddartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life because the life that he has now may not be the life that he wants. Even celebrities, with they're millions of dollars and fabulous life, are dissatisfied with they're life. What we want for people may not be the same thing the person wants for themselves. Siddartha's parents choose what life they wanted their son to have and this life he has now may not be the life he would have chosen for himself and now that Siddartha is older he is starting to realize it. Siddartha never used to disobey his father because he always thought his father knew best but when Siddartha had went with another direction his father said no so Siddartha fought for what he wanted. In the first chapter, page 2, it says that Siddartha was adored by all and who wouldn't love that but when your adored by all you start to loose yourself in the crowd of people so yes, I think that Siddartha has the right to be dissatisfied with his life.
ReplyDeleteI think Siddhartha has a reason to be unsatisfied with his life. He has a good life. He was born in a rich family. There is one person in his life that cares for him more than anyone else and that person is him friend. Also his parents are really proud for having a son like him. The daughters of the Brahmin’s family love him. On [Page2] Siddhartha felt that the love from his father, mother and Friend Govinda will not always make him happy give him peace nor satisfy him. As Siddhartha walked through the streets of the town, with his lofty brow, his king-like eyes and his slim figure love stirred in the hearts of Brahmin’s daughters. With his actions Siddhartha is making everybody happy and proud of him but at the end of the day he isn’t proud of himself. To Siddhartha being rich, handsome and loved by everyone is not enough for him to live his life and that’s all that matters. The only thing that matters to him is peace and happiness. His heart wants something, something that he is born to do. His desire is to live his life as Samana. I think that Siddhartha has the right to be dissatisfied with his life.

ReplyDeleteI don't think Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life. He gave up what he had to ensure or try to make people's lives more care-free and happy. He did simple things and enjoyed his life for the most part and because of him people have new, and some would say "better" lives and beliefs. He was also very loved when he lived wealthy, and not just for his money. He had a loving family, a wife and child and was enjoyed by his people. [on page 2]"Siddhartha felt that the love from his father, mother and Friend Govinda will not always make him happy give him peace nor satisfy him. As Siddhartha walked through the streets of the town, with his lofty brow, his king-like eyes and his slim figure love stirred in the hearts of Brahmin’s daughters." It's like he lead two lives; one of wealth and one of poverty, but contentment. For this reason, I think that Siddhartha should be happy with the life he lead, and I’m sure people are grateful that he told his ways to the people he did, because their lives may be better for it. If not, at least he tried and his intentions were good.
ReplyDeleteNo i think he can feelanything he want to think because somtimes i feel the same way with life but soner or later she will feel good about life. But sometimes he feel that way because he is a rich boy and only one person in his family cares about him more than anybodyelse in his family so he hate his life and he wishes if he could have a better life but the only thing is that he does not have any worries.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don’t think Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life because he had everything a man could ever want. He had two children. He had a beautiful wife. He was the heir to the throne and he was rich because of that. He had parents that were proud of him. He was at the top of the social caste; he was born into the family as a Brahman. He didn't have any worries. I don't know why he would ever be satisfied by his life. There was nothing wrong with his body he was in full health. He was handsome and ladies loved him. He was strong and skinny. As it is said in the passage. “Love stirred in the hearts off the young Brahmins daughter when Siddhartha walked through the streets of the town, with his lofty brow, his king-like eyes and his slim figure.” Also he had a best friend that loved him very much a lot.
ReplyDeleteNo I do not think that Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with
ReplyDeletehis life. This boy has everything a boy can want. He was born into a
rich family which means better opportunities he could have a chance to
be anything he wants. He was in the highest social class and his
daughters admired him. He should be glade to be have all that power.
If he had a life where he was in the lowest social class things would
be much harder for him. He had a great life Siddhartha mother was very
proud of him. And his father was also very proud because his son in
intelligent and thirst for knowledge. He was doing good at school and
he was a priest. He has a life that only low class person should want.
He has no write to even be unhappy. Even though this a life that was
chosen for him because the wealth of his family he should still be
contempt with his life. I also know that with a rep that Siddhartha
has he would have to only do good and not let people down. But he
should think what would be worse people miss treating him. It being
hard to get a job people thinking bad of you. He should just live the
life he has and be happy.
Said, I think Siddhartha has no reason to be dissatisfied with his life. HE got everything he want because he from a rich family. Also he could be any thing he wanted to be. Then if he was poor he would of had a harder life because he didn’t have money or food and he would of have to struggle and fends for his family to get food. Siddhartha kids wouldn’t be able to go to the best schools if he was poor and since him not poor he should be happy “there was happiness in his father’s heart because of his son who was intelligent thirsty for knowledge’. Even though his life
ReplyDeleteChosen for him because the wealth of his family he should still is contempt with his life. I also I think if I was him I will be happy to have a rich family even though my life is planed out for me. I think that the only people who should be dissatisfied with their life are the poor people. I think that because they have no money every little bite of food for their family and their children don’t get high class edatuion like other children.
What I really think is that siddartha does not have a reason to be dissatisfied with his life ,Because he has every thing a boy could have. He was born with wealth in other words his family is really rich, Even though he is pretty sad . If that was me I would be very happy not just cause he’s rich and has a lot of money but he could do anything he wants to , But he is upset with his religion. He also has a great friend who loves him and who also wants to be just like him. I really don’t think he should be starving him self to be meditating he could also eat and still meditate. Siddartha is a very handsome young man who lives
ReplyDeleteon the river by the bank near the boats in the shade of the sallow wood and the fig tree. His father cares very much about him and he does want him to follow his religion . Also his mother cares dearly about him and wants him to follow by the religion too. Although Siddartha wants to follow a different religion by the name of buddhaism but he is currently Hinduism.
- I don’t think that Siddhartha doesn’t have a reason to be dissatisfied just because he has a good life. Siddhartha has a good life but he wants more then what he was. He wants more then what his family gives him. Siddhartha Gets the stuff he needs but instead of always getting the things that he need Siddhartha wants to get his things with out the help of other like parents. Siddhartha wants more then what his mom and dad is giving him such as using then. Siddhartha doesn’t want to use the entire hook up that’s his parents has he wants to make his own way through life. I Also Thinks that he was a good life because everyone in there country loves him. They respect him and love him because the man that he is and what his parents are. Siddhartha is also kinds selfish I think just because he has all that he has the help of his mom and dad and he best friend Govinda by his side to basely he should be able and do what you want . But it’s good that he don’t want to use all connections that his parent has to make his life. He should be able to find his self and do what he wants but it hard because everyone has high expansions from him just because who he is.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think that Siddhartha has a reason to be dissatisfied with his life because he has everything that most people don’t have such as wealth, a good family, he can do almost anything he want and everyone likes him. Some people would love to be like him too especially his friend Govinda. He is also high class but the shocking thing is that he doesn’t like his life or his religion. Even though his family and friends care about him and give him peace, they don’t always make him happy. He don’t want to be apart of his religion anymore, he wants to be a samana because he doesn’t like to follow what his family follow. So what he starts to do is go outside a lot and go by the trees and the lake then start meditating for a long time, he also starves himself. I don’t think that’s a good thing to starve your self while meditating. When he was hanging out with Govinda, he told him “Govinda, come with me to the banyan tree. We will practice meditation.” So as they were doing that he was very well concentrated. Even though he is rich and people like him, he is the one that could make his own choices and choose what he wants to do.
ReplyDeleteI think Siddhartha has a reason to be unsatisfied. He has reasons because he doesn't find joy in anything because he himself is injoyed by so many. He also feels that with the life path that he has now he would be like every one else just with the same knowledge same teachings. Just like in page 4 his father and govinda talk about how they love his king-like eyes his clear voice but most of all his intellect
